+263 78 922 2847From Stage to State House: President Mnangagwa Rewards Comic Elder with a Ford Raptor
Sona Reporter | Sona Headlines & Sona Solar Zimbabwe
Leeroy Tadiwanashe Zaware, known to millions as Comic Elder, has rapidly become one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated comedians. From his breakout viral skits to receiving a presidential gift, his journey is a powerful testament to how talent, creativity, and consistency can open remarkable doors. This is the definitive look at the man behind the laughter.
The Rise of a Viral Sensation
Born in Harare on April 24, 2002, and raised in Budiriro, Comic Elder's breakout moment came with the viral skit "Takutongo Risker" in late 2023. The skit, which humorously addressed the struggles of navigating the festive season on a tight budget, resonated deeply with Zimbabweans and catapulted him to national fame. His sharp, relatable comedy quickly became his signature.
Beyond entertainment, Comic Elder remains connected to his roots and uses his platform to inspire youth. He has publicly advocated against substance abuse and encourages young people to focus on their dreams. This commitment to positive influence has been a key factor in his widespread appeal and subsequent national recognition.
A Year of Lavish Gifts & National Honor
President Mnangagwa officially handed over a brand-new Ford Raptor double cab to Comic Elder at State House in Harare on October 25, 2025. The President had promised the vehicle during the Inaugural Youth Symposium on Wednesday, where the comedian was also honored with the Best in Comedy Award. The gesture came after he humorously requested the President’s home address to “collect his promised gift.” This official handover marked a defining moment in his career, recognizing his positive influence, creativity, and contribution to youth empowerment. During the symposium, President Mnangagwa praised his comedic brilliance, saying, “Mumusoro makazara zvinhu umu” (“This head is full of many things”).
The presidential gift was his second Ford Raptor of the year. In May, car dealership Croco Motors gifted him a new Raptor after he jokingly lamented that his previously gifted Toyota Aqua was too small.
His year of vehicles began in April when he received a Toyota Aqua from Ferg Chivayo, the brother of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
