The "Frankenstein" Solar System: Why Mixing Suppliers is a Fire Risk
In the solar energy industry, a highly dangerous and increasingly common practice is emerging: Partial Installation. This occurs when a homeowner or business sources critical system components—such as batteries, inverters, and protection equipment—from third-party suppliers (often in an attempt to reduce upfront costs), and then hires a separate installer solely to mount solar panels and provide basic labor.

While this approach may appear cost-effective on paper, it introduces serious risks related to system compatibility, electrical safety, fire hazards, and long-term reliability.
“We Only Supplied the Solar Panels…”
Statements like this almost always surface after a solar system failure, electrical fire, or public safety incident. When something goes wrong, responsibility becomes blurred—but reputational damage does not. This is precisely why Sona Solar Zimbabwe maintains a strict policy against installing batteries, inverters, or protection equipment that we did not personally supply, test, and approve.
1. The Technical Disconnect
Modern Lithium batteries are not "plug and play." They contain a computer called a BMS (Battery Management System). This computer must "talk" to the Inverter to tell it when to stop charging. If you buy mismatched equipment from different shops, this communication often fails, causing the inverter to overcharge the battery, leading to swelling, thermal runaway, and fire.
Clients often buy panels based on price, not specifications. If you supply your own panels that have a Voltage (Voc) higher than what your Inverter's MPPT can handle, you will fry the inverter the moment the sun comes up. A professional installer matches the string voltage precisely to the machine.
2. The Liability Vacuum
When a "Patchwork" system fails, the homeowner is often left alone with the loss.
The Panel Installer says: "My wiring was fine, your battery exploded."
The Battery Seller says: "The installer programmed the inverter wrong."
The Inverter Shop says: "It was a surge, not our fault."
In this scenario, the homeowner loses. Insurance companies often reject claims on systems where no single certified entity signed off on the whole build.
3. The Counterfeit Epidemic
Zimbabwe is flooded with counterfeit solar gear. Fake "Must" inverters and "Pylontech" batteries look identical to the real thing on the outside but use dangerous, refurbished cells inside. If you bring your own equipment, a professional installer cannot verify its authenticity and cannot guarantee your safety.
The Sona Solar Promise
We do not do "Partial Installations." We supply the Panels, Inverter, Battery, Protection Kit, and Installation. If anything goes wrong, you call ONE number, and we fix it. No excuses.
We include a complete Protection Box (DC Breakers, Surge Protection, AC Changeover) with every installation. We do not compromise on safety to make the price cheaper.
