The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), working alongside the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT), will conduct a nationwide energy survey this year to measure how much of Zimbabwe's Electricity Demand is now being supplied by Private Solar Power Systems. The study comes as thousands of households, businesses, farms, schools, and industries increasingly invest in Rooftop Solar, Off-Grid Solar Systems, and Renewable Energy Solutions to reduce dependence on the National Grid and overcome persistent Power Outages.

Zimbabwe's growing energy crisis has accelerated a major shift towards Energy Independence, with households, businesses and institutions increasingly investing in Private Solar Power Systems to reduce reliance on the national grid. The upcoming ZERA Energy Survey, conducted in partnership with ZIMSTAT, aims to measure the true impact of privately funded solar generation and determine how much of the country's electricity demand is now being supplied through renewable energy solutions.

In an interview, ZERA Chief Executive Officer Edington Mazambani said while the authority had observed significant growth in private solar generation, it was still working to establish the sector’s full contribution to the national electricity supply.
“The authority is set to conduct an energy survey this year in partnership with ZIMSTAT and be able to get the correct figures for the percentage of Zimbabwe’s current electricity demand which is now being met by privately funded solar systems,” Mazambani said.
